❄️ December Buyers Be Like… A Love Letter to the Truly Unhinged (but Determined) Winter House-Hunter)

There’s a special kind of person who decides to go house shopping in December.
And by “special,” I mean absolutely fearless.
The type who looks Mother Nature straight in the face while she screams ❄️❄️❄️ and says:
“Actually… I do need to see that property today.”
Let’s be honest: winter real estate in Alberta isn’t for the faint of heart.
If you’re shopping for a home in -27°C, while the roads are basically a skating rink and daylight lasts about as long as a coffee break… congratulations.
You’re built different.
🥶 The Weather: A Minor Inconvenience (Apparently)
Normal people:
“I’ll wait until spring to start looking. It’s too cold.”
December buyers:
“If my eyelashes freeze together, I’ll just blink harder.”
These brave souls will trek through knee-deep snowbanks, march across icy driveways, and perform Olympic-level balance routines just trying to reach the front door.
And somehow, they’ll still say:
“It’s not that bad.”
☕ The Uniform: Parka + Coffee + Determination
You can spot a December buyer from across the parking lot:
- Hood up
- Mittens mismatched
- Reusable coffee cup clutched like a life-giving potion
- Footwear: whatever has the best chance of not sending them to the ER
There’s a certain look in their eyes too — a mix of desperation, determination, and “I’ve already come this far, don’t test me.”
🕒 Daylight: Gone in a Blink
Showings at 4:00 PM?
Pitch black.
Showings at 3:30 PM?
Also pitch black.
Showings at noon?
Somehow still dark-ish.
December buyers will tour a property with a flashlight, a phone flashlight, and sometimes… a car headlight pointed at the house “just to get a better look.”
Romantic? No.
Committed? Absolutely.
🚗 The Roads: An Extreme Sport
Driving to a showing in December should come with a waiver.
- Black ice
- Surprise snow drifts
- “Is this the road or someone’s yard?” moments
- That one person doing 140 in a blizzard while you pray for your life
And yet — yet! — December buyers will calmly say:
“Well, the market’s not as busy right now.”
Correct.
Because everyone else stayed home like reasonable adults.
🔥 But Here’s the Plot Twist… They Often Win.
December buyers:
✔ Face less competition
✔ Have more negotiating power
✔ See homes in their “worst-case” weather
✔ Move into the New Year already ahead of the game
Buying in December?
It’s not chaos — it’s strategy.
(…and maybe just a little chaos.)
💖 A Toast to the December House Hunter
To the parka-wearing, coffee-chugging, ice-dodging champions of winter real estate:
I see you.
I admire you.
I salute your commitment to finding “the one” — even if you can’t feel your toes anymore.
If you survive December showings, you can survive anything that comes with homeownership.
And when you’re ready, I’ll be there — keys in one hand, hot chocolate in the other. ☕🏡✨
